Moakley Park is one of the city’s largest open space assets, sitting right on Boston Harbor behind Carson Beach, and hosts a myriad of active recreation venues. We’re looking for teams and individuals to submit innovative design ideas that will reimagine this important park and consider climate change, equitable access, the integration of play into our built environment, and public open space design.

September 14 @ 6pm – Ideas  Competition Kick Off / Program Brief

We’re looking for Design Leaders to come to the Project Briefing on September 14th @ BSA Space @ 6:30pm, assemble teams (either in advance or that evening) take the next two weeks to craft some beautifully innovative open space solutions and present them to our esteemed jury on September 27th @ 6:30 at the BSA Space. A $500 prize will be given to the winning design.

Project goals (details to be released at the September 14th event) will include equitable access, climate resiliency, multi-generational recreation, green infrastructure, and urban forestry strategies.  Boston Harbor Now particularly encourages Boston Living with Water Competition veterans to participate.  This is an outstanding opportunity to apply what you learned about beautiful, resilient design to a brief design competition and an actual RFP later this year!

UPDATE FROM BRIEFING –

An overview of the Moakley Ideas Competition and supporting materials were handed out at the Project Briefing on September 14.

If you were unable to attend, but wish to participate, you must sign your team up before noon on September 19 via email to BSLA’s Chapter Office (ChapterOffice@BSLAnow.org). Submissions from only registered teams will be considered.

Materials are available on the BSLA website and on the Submission form.

September 27  @ 6pm – Juried Presentation of Design Concepts

Our esteemed jury will provide thoughtful feedback on each proposal before deciding on winners in categories like Best Sustainable Solution and Most Public Benefit. A People’s Choice award will also be voted on by all attendees.

But wait! There’s more!

BPRD is putting out a Request for Proposals for the Moakley Park Master Plan this fall. The knowledge and ideas you have gained through this competition will be seamlessly integrated into a business development opportunity should you decide to pursue this request.
