Tree Protection and Enforcement Agent (Part-Time)
The Town of Brookline is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable forestry or landscape planning/architecture professional passionate about addressing climate change by protecting Brookline’s urban tree canopy through the administration and enforcement of the Town’s Tree Protection Bylaw.
As the Tree Preservation and Enforcement Agent, you will play a central role in the implementation of Brookline’s Urban Forest Climate Resiliency Master Plan and protecting our beautiful tree canopy. Key Responsibilities:
Administer and enforce the Town’s Tree Protection and related bylaws
Serve as the department’s point person on tree regulations, including permit review and enforcement actions
Track and manage data related to various tree and landscape management bylaws
Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to effectively implement tree protection bylaws, rules, and regulations
Communicate with members of the public, contractors, and other stakeholders to educate them about tree protection.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Arboriculture/Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
Three to five years of experience reviewing and interpreting site plans
Experience enforcing bylaws, ordinances, and/or regulations
Knowledge & Skills:
Extensive knowledge of trees and/or landscape design
Ability to read/interpret engineering plans, documents, diagrams, site plans, and drawings
Ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data; Excellent problem-solving/planning skills
Strong technical and computer skills; Proficiency in permitting software
Skilled at preparing educational and informational materials, correspondence, and other written materials
Ability to follow oral & written instructions
