This is highly skilled professional level work that oversees Parks, Recreation and Facilities projects, from developing the scope of work to the completion of projects. Typical projects include, but are not limited to: playground installation, swimming pools, athletic field installation, irrigation and drainage systems, historical preservation, athletic court construction, plazas, sidewalks, monuments, parking lots, restroom facilities, trails, and waterfront infrastructure.

The Project Manager will also oversee projects being run by other Department personnel ensuring process and completion of the projects. This position develops the initial scope of work for Department construction projects and prepares cost estimates for potential and actual projects and monitors assigned project budgets from initial appropriation to final payment. This position also attends all pre-bid meetings with the ability to clearly define the scope of work, prepares the necessary bid and contract documents, including obtaining the necessary signatures for approval and reviews bids to assure qualified bidders.

In addition to the above, the Project Manager also goes to job sites to monitor progress and to evaluate the method used to accomplish the work, makes sure the proper materials and tools are being used and that the finished results exceed the expectation of the customer; ensures that all work is performed in a timely, cost effective and professional manner; works with selected outside contractors and monitors their performance; follows all purchasing requirements set forth by the City.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management or a related field and 3 years of supervisory / project management experience or a combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities required of this position

  • Broad working knowledge of Parks, Recreation and Facilities management, including playgrounds, trails, athletic facilities, plumbing and electrical systems, fencing parks roads and sidewalks

  • Working knowledge of applicable building, fire, electrical and plumbing codes, as well as, knowledge of HVAC systems and designs

  • Extensive knowledge of local, state and federal safety rules and regulations

  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, contractors, City employees, Friends Groups, Boards and Commissions

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes working long hours, nights and weekends

  • Manages large and detailed budgets.

  • Works on the research and development of City ordinances and policies and collaborates on urban forestry planning.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or related field, and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Master in Landscape Architecture (MLA) and Registration as a Licensed Landscape Architect (or in process) preferred.

Hatch is seeking a Landscape Architect to join its team in Boston, MA to assist with current and exciting future projects. The Boston team is a center of excellence focusing on green infrastructure (GI) design, landscape architecture, sustainable site design, landscape restoration, urban forestry, and climate change resiliency. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle, comprising conceptual design, feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction administration, monitoring and long-term management.

Position Summary:

We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in sustainable landscape design that are well organized, thoughtful and creative. Candidates should be able to work independently as well as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team and have strong verbal, written and graphic communication skills. As Landscape Architect, you will progress design concepts through design development and work with the project team to produce Construction Documents. You will also provide task management, analysis, design and construction observation support for a wide range of local, national and international projects. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual who possesses the ability to work with an interdisciplinary team, takes initiative on tasks and coordinating with others, adheres to project deadlines, and demonstrates a good work ethic.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Support our interdisciplinary design team in the planning, designing, permitting and overseeing construction on a variety of site development and green infrastructure projects including transit developments, complete an green streets, parks and greenways, Constructed wetlands, shoreline restoration and full site sustainable development.

  • Task management; plan, organize, coordinate, review the work of junior staff, estimate manpower needs, and schedule work to meet completion date.

  • Oversee preparation of Contract Documents.

  • Support in the development of Construction Documents.

  • Production of illustrative graphics, 3-D models, presentations and renderings.

  • Construction oversight and field investigations.

Desired Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Landscape Architecture.

  • Five-plus (5+) years of landscape architectural design experience.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Photoshop.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, BIM 360, ProjectWise, Revit, Bluebeam, Sketchup, Illustrator is a plus.

  • Knowledge and experience with LEED® and SITES® rating systems is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of native plants a plus.

  • Portfolio or work samples will be required if considered for an interview.

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
